  • How Old Must I Be To Join The Program?
    You must be between the ages of 14 and 20 to join our program. If you are below this age, however, you may join our partners at NYPD SSD Explorer Club 0510
  • How Do I Obtain The Uniform?
    The NYPD Supplies the standard issue uniform after six months of service to the program. Before that, explorers must wear the designated explorer propbationary uniform which consists of: ​ - A Navy Blue Polo Shirt - Khaki / Beige Colored Pants - Black Socks - Black Sneakers - Two Black Pens ​- A Black Wrist Watch.
  • How Much Does The Program Cost?
    The Explorer Program does require a $24 annual fee to remain a registered explorer. Please Contact Us If There you are experiencing any financial difficulty in relation to the program.
  • Do I Have To Become A Police Officer In Order To Become an Explorer?
    No! Explorers learn many life skills through our program, such as the value of community service, first aid & CPR,
  • What Do Explorers Do?
    Explorers train with Law Enforcement to provide them with knowledge of real-world tactics. We also engage in Para-Military style drills, and march in parades such as the Travis Fourth of July Parade. Furthermore, Explorers also volunteer to serve their community in various community projects, such as the Annual Polar Plunge.
  • Do Explorers Go On Ride Alongs?
    Explorers do not go on ride alongs as a part of our program. If you are 18 years of age or older and wish to do a ride along, you can submit an application HERE or find out more about the NYPD Ride Along Program HERE.
  • What Services Do Explorers Partake In?
    Explorers perform community service through various projects such as graffiti clean ups, youth events and charity runs. Explorers are never permitted to direct traffic, perform crowd control or act in any official law enforcement capacity.
  • Do Explorers Get a Badge / Gun / Handcuffs?
    No. While explorers do interact often with training props, including imitation firearms and handcuffs, they are forbidden from taking these home or use them outside of a supervised training capacity.
  • Does An Explorer Have Arrest Powers?
    No. Explorers are civilian volunteers, and are not equipped with any additional priveleges or special powers.
  • Can I Use Community Serivce Hours Gained Through The Program For School?
    Yes, you are able to use community service gained through our program for school. In fact, Explorers mention that this program is an excellent way to earn community service hours.
  • Can I Be an NYPD Auxiliary Officer / NYPD Cadet and an NYPD Explorer at the Same Time?
    No, according to the NYPD Explorer Manual, you may not be a member of NYPD Auxiliary and/or NYPD Cadets and be an NYPD Explorer at the same time.
  • How Many Explorers are in Your Post?
